A Random Friday

036 copy

It’s been in the damps here. One of those damps which crusts over the sugar in the sugar bowl and feels sticky on the skin. It’s not just the rain, and the damps are different than the dumps. The damps are when everything you own, everything you touch, everything you are is sticky and moist and uncomfortable and leave you feeling miserable and the slightest change in a situation can render you completely at wits end, depressed and life’s-not-worth-living-shoot-me-now-ish. Know what I mean?

For some bizarre reason, one of the antique brass beds in the house has dyed green stripes on the white pillow covers.

I’m running out of time. That is to say the restoration company is running out of time to get the floor finished, get things painted and cleaned up and replace my furniture before I leave for England and don’t return for a good two months. This means I will not sign off on the project until I’m absolutely and completely sure that nothing has been missed, forgotten about or not done if promised. This means that my insurance agency will not release the last bulk of the funds till September when I get back. I’ve decided that none of this is my problem as I’m still sticking to the agreed on time schedule.

When I walked into the hall this morning and saw the sun shining on the guardian chair, my happiness factor increased exponentially. YAY SUN!

I really should be living in Arizona or Barcelona or Santorini or some other sunny situation instead of flitting between rain in Vancouver and rain in Oxford.

Linking with Nancy at A Rural Journal for the random five Friday. 🙂

    Hi Veronica,
I am so sorry that you are having such trouble with your renovations. You must be very upset. I will miss reading your blog when you are away in England… or will you be documenting your trip and keeping us posted? I hope so. I would love to go to England – my grandmother was born there but I am afraid of flying. Take lots of pictures for me! I hope that you have a wonderful time.
    Take care,
    Karen

Yes we have the damps here too but we do get lots of sunshine. Yesterday the temperature was 88 degrees F, but due to the humidity being 70%, the real feel if you were outside would be 105. This was at 11 a.m -it only got hotter from there. Plus thunderstorms and lightning every day this month…but rain does not accompany these storms.

You would love Arizona sunshine during the winter months, but no no no…. not in the summertime. Much too hot as I can attest to after living there for more than 20 years. Stay where you are! Fingers crossed for luck with the renovation!! xox

I understand the damps. We’ve had a lot of rain here, lately, and I didn’t realize how much I missed the sunshine until it appeared again. I’m glad you got some sunshine, too. I’m sorry about the slow pace of the renovations. Hopefully things will pick up before you have to leave. Thank you for your kind comment on my blog–I appreciated it very much!

Hi Veronica ~~ I am not sure that I would want to live in so many places in such a short time. I think a year or longer in each would be better for me. I’d love to live in NYC for two years, Paris for two, London for three, Barcelona for one, and then I would either start over again or go to some of the more remote places I’ve visisted.

But I might not live long enough to do all that I would like so will do next best. Next week we will leave for London for two months. Our daughter works and lives there. She has moved her family there too, two daughters and a stay-at-home-dad who can’t work because he is on a spousal visa.

Not sure what all we will do. Some things we haven’t done and more that we have done before. We haven’t been to Wales so this might be the time. Several times we have been to Ireland and Scotland and Isle of Man. A weekend in Paris is a must, haven’t been there since April 2012.

Will “C” go with you? I cannot figure out for sure who she is. Your Baby, I know. Maybe see you there, Oxford is before Northampton where we will go to see friends. I will blog on a reduced schedule.

We’ve been having the damps around here, also – YUCK, and I laughed about your Arizona comment – I say that on an almost daily basis! Best of luck with our renovations!

Hi again, Veronica. I had meant last night to comment on a part of your comment, about “”Cat Spring Texas” NOT!!! ” Have you been to Cat Spring or was it just the ‘Catty’ name that caught your attention?
That was my first time there, I might not be there again as it was a “short cut” away from the crowded Interstate Highway, I-10. The area was pretty, mostly pasture land where several of the farmers kept goats.

Hoping this is a good day for you to get things done, Jim
