a straight line poem
Robert Lee Brewer offered a prompt today on his site Poetic Asides. He said to write a straight line poem.
You know when something happens and sends one spiraling straight down. Don’t spiraling and straight line seem like one and the same; in the way of not being able to get out of the spiral and heading straight down…you know…I know you do.
Anyway, safety warning: read at your own peril; it’s pretty dark.
Check out my friends De, Hannah, Jo Ann and Claudsy for much more uplifting poems 🙂
Spiraling
I hate to see the sun go down
leaving the black of my words
filled with sadness
repeating words
red and heart shaped
crack briefly and fill my inner sky
drown till there’s no breath
notes of a violin pull the strings of my heart
soft gray memories
in the key of pain
distance and denial drain the colour from the world
nothing remains but a brave smile

been there … and it’s strangely comforting to read the words … yes it is dark – but not depressing – the tender beauty in it suggests hope X

Oh, Veronica…your words resonate of dismal days that I’m so familiar with. Achingly beautiful…I love that emotive stringed violin crying out and these:
“distance and denial drain the colour from the world
nothing remains but a brave smile”
Blessings for that brave smile, Veronica.
Thank you ever SO much for linking my poem here. SO very sweet of you!!!
I hope you’re having a good day today. 🙂

Hannah, I love your poems, and prompts on flashy fiction. Wish I had more time. 🙂

Lovely, Veronica. Honestly, most of us have been there and some frequently. I find when I’m there it is, though painful, a place where I realign my priorities and return to what is essential. It is also the place where I see most clearly to the essence of things: relationships, objects and nature. Thank you for reminding the world that all our experiences have value and contain their own beauty.

Thank you Kris, you are so sweet to comment and I can already see we will be friends. 🙂
