Folds, Carole’s drawing challenge

When my wonderful (almost) neighbour Carole suggested “folds” for this weekend’s drawing challenge, I thought of the origami I keep failing at in such spectacular ways...lol.

In the china cabinet are two tiny origami cranes right beside a tiny Alice, a present from a visiting friend, and I can’t even begin to think how such a tiny thing is folded. Chopsticks maybe?

So I decided that a painting with a bit of collage might be more suited to my style, specifically tissue paper collage.

I love using tissue paper and moving it with the brush and the mat medium, and making it fold in soft waves on the painted page.

So here is my piece for this week, The Dove. I love the soft folds in the texture, I love the folds of the dove’s wings, I love the gentle folds in the hands. It’s a good one.

When you have a chance, come hop over to Carole’s for links to the folding bunch. 😀

It takes a delicate hand to create tissue folds and a stronger more forceful hand to fold origami, Veronica! Did you know that children in Japan often learn how to fold origami from their grandmothers. I’ve tried and like you have many rejected cranes. Thanks for participating in this Drawing Challenge.

origami is the best exercise at keeping the patience to continue… once it took literal months for me to fold a tiny booklet from just one piece of paper. each time i threw the paper in the corner of a room after trying and trying, until one day, months later indeed, i managed to finally fold that booklet. i’ve gained a lot of persistence from it, but am faced with the same frustration when on a new project i simply do not get the instructions…
but coming back to your today’s entry, tissue folds are the best, because they are delicate and haphazard, two qualities i love to see marry one another. you’ve done that! n?

wow how lovely and delicate your collage is- such a wonderful figure 🙂
and I had an immediate smile thinking about tacking tissue paper down with glue- the instant folds/layer/transparencies- just great 🙂
