It is what it is

The other day I had a minute to sit in Sbux and read the local paper.

Gotta love the headline:

So among the very useful tips to beat the winter blahs are: eat at a Mexican restaurant to trick your mind, wear brighter colours and get plenty of sleep.

If only I could!!! Ok, I can do a coloured scarf and I can eat Mexican and love it, but the sleep…

Let me tell you why I can’t sleep around here. It’s because there are gun shots going off in my house all night and it’s been happening for a month now. The gun shots are the noises that the floor makes as the planks crack down the seams and separate.

I know. I KNOW!!! Can you believe the nightmare this floor has become? The trouble is that not only are the planks separating along the seams but occasionally the seam won’t give way and the actual plank tears, as in this next pic. Some gaps are now about 2mm, while others are slimmer, but the whole edge is rough and catches on socks, stockings and cat hair. There is no way to sweep up the floor now and I’m worried that dirt and dust will start to accumulate within the floor because, after all, we live here!

So these days I’m trying to function on about 4-5 hours of sleep, but still, there’s lovely morning sun in my bedroom…

And wonderful people watching around town.

Fantastic parks with snow capped mountains and forests to hike around in.

And, if all else fails, there’s always cookies.

Here is a brilliant article someone posted to my FB today. Got to get rid of the stress and start meditating again.

How unfortunate about the floors…what in the world is causing that to happen? I’d have to bite the head off a huge number of snowmen cookies in order to deal with the stress, so perhaps meditating would be better….or better yet, go get your feet tattooed…:)

Love the snowmen! Did you make them? Winter blues can be hard. Hang in there 🙂

    It seems based on your blog that your mood gradually lifted I hope. It lifted my spirits by the end. Have the floors cracked before this year? Has something changed in the substrate . It’s weird to start all of a sudden, I wonder why? Is it a new floor? {{Hug Veronica}}

Such luscious pictures! Love the view both inside and out.
So sorry about the floors – good luck on finding solutions!
I live in the rainy/cloudy Pacific NW (Oregon) & it can be challenging to beat the Grey here, too – extra Magnesium & some Vit D-3 can also help.

I am fortunate to live where winter usually means just wearing a sweatshirt outside once in a while. But I well remember the first half of my adult life in a place where I would count the days until I would see the maple trees tapped… and I knew spring wasn’t far away. I know that has nothing to do with your floor… but I hope things go well for you… regardless.

Tucson does get very warm in the summer… but I love it. I love everything about the desert valley as well as the mountains. Yes… I am very biased… but I believe I live in the best place on earth. I should email you sometime about my morbid “last wishes” for my “remains” when I die. It won’t happen because it is illegal but at least my thought is genuine. Which doesn’t have anything to do with blue car doors on Thursdays either.

Roni, the planks need to be screwed into the joists. Love the zebra shoes and pic of the snow-capped mtn.

Hi Veronica, whoof! I can’t believe what’s going on with your floors. My hubbie, who is also a general contractor, and architect and has been doing development for about 30 years, said it looks like they put the boards too close together–they have to leave room for expansion. Though very difficult to tell with one pic. Very glad you haven’t signed off yet. Love those feet and shoes!! Also, absolutely love frosted sugar cookies… I’d have to walk away from that display very quickly lol! Your photo of the morning light, sigh 🙂 The other solution to gray is to come visit me in the tropics and get a big and little doggie fix—maybe you could help me plant all these different milkweed plants that I ordered, 15! I’m now overwhelmed 😀

Never mind what I said about the floors–I started thinking about it, and that photo is way too small to be able to tell anything, and instead of helping, I’m probably giving you more anxiety than nights filled with pops. Daryl has a great point–earplugs! Hugs and hoping everything settles down soon <3
