Love letter: dear courage

Dear courage,

Change is in the air. I feel it. I feel it looming and circling and gathering strength.

I can feel it creaking across my heart late at night.

Resisting is only prolonging the frustration of the situation I’m in at the moment.

The universe is funny that way.
It will whisk you up and drop you miles away from where you thought you were heading to, and just makes you cope.

I like change, really, I do. I like new situations and new people and new places. But on the other hand, I really do not like change forced on me.

I definitely do not like Mr Steel-toed Boots the builder next door. I do not like his bullying tactics, the bending of the bylaws, the confrontations on my doorstep, the damage.

012 copy copy

Why do we not like some people?

033 copy copy

I always think that when you see the light in someone’s eyes, when you finally see WHO they are, you realise that they are someone who you might eventually understand. That’s so effortless, isn’t it?

022 copy copy

The other ones, the ones whose light you don’t see, they aren’t so easy.

026 copy copy

But that’s probably because you don’t let them see your light either.

Watercolour painting of Cher Ami; a WWI carrier pigeon. Tiny little guy flew over war carrying messages back and forth saving the lives of over 200 men. I put him on a nondescript sheet of church voluntary. Just one small bird in the middle of a war. Such a courageous spirit.

Some people are just plain horrid. I feel sorry for you, my mum had the same sort of thing happen to her, not building works just a really horrid neighbour.
She and dad had been in the same house since they were first married and had me and my brother there, but the neighbourhood started deteriorating and this horrid person was the last straw. So it made them make a decision to move, and it was the best thing they could of done, they started a whole new life in a wonderful house with lovely neighbours and mum stayed in it for over twenty years until her death. It is awful to feel pushed out of somewhere you love but good can come out of it too.

I hope the conflict resolves itself soon. That kind of unwanted situation is so unsettling, isn’t it.

I love that x’s and o’s game with the weathered wood and the painted stones. So clever and attractive.

Veronica, may I have your permission to use that photo of your painting of the WWI messenger pigeon on my blog? (with full attribution and a link to your blog, of course). I’m thinking of doing a series about the heroic animals/birds of war and I’d love to include this image and story.

Love this: “The universe is funny that way. It will whisk you up and drop you miles away from where you thought you were heading to, and just makes you cope.”
    So true.
    Really wonderful post.

living so close to another person makes getting along necessary … the construction crew should be aware they are invading not just the space they are building in but the spaces all around them … louts

Oh V, I didn’t know about that bird … it has made me teary thinking about it. Such a beautiful painting too … I read about the light in someones eyes and not being able to read them – but then because our light is hidden too. This is so very true! I’m so sorry that one of your neighbours is a bully – you don’t deserve it. Love your photos V .. that pic of Morgan is just gorgeous. Hugs xxx
