Melodye’s Drawing Challenge: LOVE

I LOVE that Melodye called this drawing challenge: love for this Valentine’s Day weekend.
How wonderful and welcome that is.

I really had no idea what to do for this and, coming just after (what I called) a disaster of a sketch this morning, I decided to just get my big journal, which I’ve been using for my Jeanne Oliver Reflections course, and let something happen organically.

I found the word on the page that I was looking for and stuck a piece of tape over it so it would stay unpainted, and sketched out a big heart.

Then I just slathered acrylic paint all over the two pages.

While a batch of granola was cooking was the best time to sit down and sketch some flowers.

Then I asked Chloe to come up to the studio and collaborate on this piece with me.

At first we didn’t know what to paint, but then the pages took on a life of their own and, after an hour or so, layers and layers of images, collage, stamps, and paint began to come together in a beautiful painting.

Soon it was time to take the tape off and reveal the saved message.

And here’s our collaboration. Do you like it?

We love it.
To me, there’s nothing better in the world than being able to collaborate on a piece of art with someone you love.

You’ll also love stopping my Melodye’s beautiful site and feeling the love from everyone. 😀

I DO love it!! All of it!! Woodland creatures, beautiful blossoms, fantastical characters, postage stamps and strips of beautiful script… And best of all, that you’ve collaborated on an art project in which you’ve spoken–here and to each other–the language of love. Thank you for sharing “a love.”
