Monday struggles = Etsy 101
How’s this for braveheart Monday. I’ve dedicated most of today to learning how to…and concurrently starting that long talked about Etsy shop. (because what’s the point of actually reading the directions if you don’t follow them at the same time…lol) Gosh, but it’s confusing.
All of you who have Etsy shops out there, how did you ever do it!??!
In preparation for all of this I bought Jeanne Oliver’s ecourse: Building a Creatively Made Business. I bought it ages ago and so I figure I better use the info before I run out of time. 🙂 I must say it’s a brilliant little course and I’m learning a lot from her. Also in preparation for this I cleaned up the house…as you do…picked some last garden dahlias and bought some chrysanthemums. (because one must always start difficult projects with beautiful flowers, don’t you think so?)
Also, as rain is coming overnight, this was waiting for me this morning. No, not the cats, they wait for no one…lol. Look beyond them to that carpet of leaves. Still, not as bad as poor Robert who has to deal with the seven 100 ft maples all on his own. But then, there’s a riding mower at West Cottage and only girl power here.
So I worked and learned and learned and worked and ran off to the bank, the gym, and home again for lunch and to work and learn some more. I looked up examples and read thru millions of websites for hints and idea, and raked up the leaves and drank plenty of tea and I think I’m pretty close now. Of course I’ve lost the light now, so the things which are left are: photographing everything, editing, posting, and getting thru all the financial stuff.
I tried to tell Morgan how impressed with myself I am, but, if there isn’t people food in it, she’s not interested. 🙂
Hope I’m ready for this. (Hope you’re ready for this 🙂 )

Aw thank you Abrianna. I had to take that thru the door a split second before they realised I was there and could open it. It’s a bit overwhelming, this blogging/etsy business, but it’s slowly coming together. If you ever want to ask some questions, I’d try my best to give you as much info as I have. 🙂

Good luck to you! I remember seeing an Etsy promotional video where they featured Nancy of Nancy’s Daily Dish who sells transferware. It was exciting to see how an entrepreneur could take a hobby and passion into a real business. I’ll look forward to hearing how this learning process goes for you!

I have a question…why etsy? what about big cartel? etsy has changed so much in recent years and they’ve just opened up (formally) for mass-produced stuff from China. thryve never done much to combat copy cats. they’ve lost their soul and the plot, in addition to being very user unfriendly with the cumbersome way of listing items. so while I definitely think you should be selling your art online, have you considered other venues?

Hi Julie. I don’t know much about Etsy and even less about Big Cartel. The only reason Etsy is because great directions are included in the little ecourse I bought and so I thought it might be a starting point. I’ll look into Big Cartel tomorrow. 🙂 None of it seems very ideal. I’d love to set something bespoke up right thru my website, but then again, how do I start that? Maybe I should talk to a coder. 🙂

I did it by just starting.
Do you have stock? Well, make nice pictures, and put them in listings with a nice text, and you’re halfway done. Adding to your listings regularly (f.i. by putting something new in your shop every day or week) helps too.
I admit, thinking about shop policy etc. took me a while, but I looked a lot at how others do that, and I just keep learning every day. It just does get easier when you start.

Ah yes! Every difficult project seems a tad easier when there are fresh flowers in a vase nearby. I would like to create an Etsy Shop too but it does sound tricky!
