One golden hour in the day

One of my most favourite things in the world just happens. It’s not one of those things which can be planned, and, very often, happens when there really isn’t time for it to happen.

It’s a magical moment when everyone is doing their own thing and then everyone comes together somehow, a conversation starts and suddenly, no one wants to have to go make supper or do homework or anything else; it’s like there’s a golden hour where outside time stands still.

This golden hour happened today.

Chloe came home form her internship, Anastasiia came back from three hours of ballet, Robert and I put down our work for the day, and I opened two inks I had ordered a few days ago to give them a try.

Chloe started to tell us of her day, and we listened and chatted back and forth, and I painted a small chickadee with my new inks. (supper happened an hour late but no one cared)

Chickadees don’t normally have green eyes, only in golden hours. 😀

art: page from Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet, black and white Daler Rowney inks, green Mont Blanc ink, (used by my father for his fountain pens), ochre watercolour pencil.

The Golden Hour, what a fabulous name for your spontaneous special time! I feel that same way when my oldest son comes home from university, everything seems whole, and complete, and all four if us sit together and talk and be goofy, and all seems right!

Your chickadee is simply gorgeous and transparently beautiful over the musical notes! The chickadees around here have been prolific and I love to hear their greetings each day. I have a bird feeder just outside my window in front of my “art studio”, really a space in my dining room, and as I am doing my art, I have to take frequent breaks to watch the little fellows feeding. It is fascinating that at one time there can be three or four different species of birds sharing one feeder. If only humans got along so well!

Thanks for sharing your life with others and for visiting me at my blog. I appreciate your comments, they make me feel good!

One door closes and another opens…thank you so much for leaving a comment today so I could follow it back here to your post. Not only do we have children near the same age I see we both draw too! I love your bird on music paper, I paint birds on eggs. My goal is to paint every bird from South Carolina, but I am far behind.
Golden hours are filled with magic aren’t they? I hope you have many of them.
    Enjoy the weekend

What a great way to spend your time. It seems we are often so busy that we tend to take time to really sit and enjoy each other’s company. By the way I love your bird piece. Do you sell these?

I love the way all these photos are adorned with pale golden light – almost as if someone painted golden highlights onto the images – really lovely …. and thanks as well for the reminder to notice and savour these moments X
