Randomness, here it comes:

Clover and I went for a walk in the old hood this week, (only a few minutes drive). It’s so beautiful in Vancouver when the sun shines! Every time I find myself on a day like this, in a place like this, I feel like the luckiest girl in the world…and there are hummingbirds displaying.

Actually, walk is a loose term, always remembering that if you go down those stairs, at one point you have to actually hike up those stairs to get back to the car…but we can’t help it. πŸ˜€

Briefly wondered what those mysterious white spots could be on my African violet leaves, then it dawned on me: potato starch! I started to peel the potatoes over the sink right beside the little plants…DUH…lol.

I’m starting to really love this boho, floopsy, gypsy, layered clothing look.

The more I get into silversmithing and begin to understand the how-to of it all, the more I: a) appreciate innovative designs and craftsmanship, and b) shake my head at the unbelievably high prices some craftsman ask…especially when I know that a certain piece with the $300 price tag has about $50 worth of silver in it and took about one hour with simple techniques. What gives? Maybe it’s me.

I started a Pinterest board of the most beautiful jewellery just for inspiration. Don’t you just love Pinterest?

very chic R5F post :-), this is my look but not as sophisticated or classy more the poor man’s boho, you do make me a tiny bit homesick with your waterfront shot which is drop dead gorgeous…I remember the wanting a boat, the desire runs in ones veins living so near a vast ocean or sea….

It looks like you’ve had some really beautiful days to enjoy!
I am glad that you solved the potato starch mystery. That would drive me crazy thinking the violets had some sort of leaf rot or something, ahhh
    Have a lovely weekend.

I love the Boho, flopsy, gypsy layered look too, but on other people. I don’t think I could get away with it at my age. I already look pretty flopsy without adding the Boho and layers. And those stairs look pretty foreboding, but certainly doable … good for you.. I love siver jewelry, but I agree the price doesn’t seem to be right anymore. But, I still love it and the pieces you are showing are delicious. As for boats, you should have one … there is nothing like it πŸ™‚ Have a great week Veronica …

    Hi Veronica,

I took a silver & stone-setting course because I wanted to make exactly what I had in mind. And I figured how hard can it be? Working with silver is a little fiddly but not difficult and for the price of one ring on Etsy I set myself up with some basic tools. So I agree with you that some jewelry sellers charge what other people will pay, especially if their products come with stories and are “made with love” and “good intentions” and hint at bringing the buyer strength /peace/adventure/etc. Basic marketing really: (I heard about a study that said people will pay way more for the same item on places like ebay, if that item comes with a background story…) Sometimes, when you look closely at the photos you can see the bezel join or the bezel top has been banged up while setting the stone and the price is still really high considering the material cost and the manufacturing time. And I for one am not buying πŸ™‚ When I do see something spectacular and incredibly well-made then it is a different story!

Gorgeous view of the Mountains and the Lake.
That’s quite a trail of steps leading down and yes getting back up isn’t so easy anymore.
I hardly ever visit Pinterest, just couldn’t seem to get into it for some reason. Besides I spend way to much time blog viewing to add anything more to look at.
I don’t want a boat but sailing in one would be fun.

once you know what it takes/costs to do something/make something its hard to shop and not buy .. you must remember that in addition to the materials there’s the cost of the time it takes to make ….
