Response to Tuesday Tryouts: Summer Style
Hmmm…my friend Margo Roby says write a summer poem. Margo says write a list of all things summer and then don’t mention any of the things on the list. And don’t sound cliché.
OK here goes:
One cliché summer sunset over the Laurentiens photo…so far so good…I’m not sounding cliché, I’m looking cliché…lol.
Ok… seriously…one summer-everything-on-my-list-not-mentioned poem, actually, a very surrealistic poem.
if we walk by the side of the river
whose curling waves undermine the bank
if we walk among the trees
whose curling leaves mark our faces green
if we hasten through the darkness
that is full of hands with curling fingers
if we evade the whispering waves
the writhing leaves
the clutching fingers
and if the house still stands
and the door is open
and we enter unscathed
a fire will be waiting
and we shall rise like smoke
blacken the rafters
and dance on the roof like birds
and pierce the sky with our beaks
Oh, but I love it! It’s great aloud, too. I love tracing the imagery the speaker conjures up. I hope you enjoy the result. The photograph is gorgeous.
There’s an idea Margo, I haven’t recorded a poem for ages. That would be fun to post sometimes! Thank you for liking the photo. In the photo world sunsets and flowers are considered a little cliché because, you know, inescapable subjects which everyone photographs. I don’t care, I still love to. 🙂
Oh, this is more than summer. This is spring in overdrive! Love it.
Spring in overdrive, I love it! Thank you so much. 🙂
Soft and touching.
Thank you Frank, so glad you enjoyed it.
Veronica!!! This is amazing!!! Seriously, I love this!! Such wonderful images and the repetition of curling for waves, leaves and fingers and the turning into the curling of smoke ….the birds!! Brilliant and the photography is stunning! What a treat this visit was, thank you!!
Wow Hannah, thank you very much. I used to write a lot of surrealistic poetry…maybe it’s time to pick that up again.
Veronica, I read this just before falling off to sleep last night, and I had the most vivid dreams about curly finger leaves in a forest! 😀
Oh no Misky! 🙂 I was thinking about walking along the Thames, where I usually am in the summer. Those willows can be pretty clutchy!
this is very wonderful – grabbed me in the middle and pulled – potent X
Catherine!! So lovely of you to stop by, thank you. x
I love the repeating images of curling and then at the end, how it all uncurls and dances away from the roof top.
Thank you Annette. Really sweet of you to say so.
Beautiful poem, V. The photo was a perk!
Hi Sara. I love the fingerprint photo on your site. Now to find time to have a read thru.:)
Oh, that is so wonderful! The imagery…it made my heart flutter for summer!
Hi Kelly, I’m so glad. How are you doing? I think about you and hope you’re well. You are one of the first people I met and really liked during this MNINB April.
Beautiful. I’ll take that summer walk any day.
Thank you…and…wait for me 🙂
