Friday turquoise random.

It seems to me that everywhere I look everything is coming up turquoise. Turquoise is the new chartreuse right now.

This is the Christmas?!? window at the local gift shop. Call me old fashioned but I’m not buying it.

Also, everywhere I look there are turquoise lamps. Ghastly lamps which probably should have been shattered in the 1960s when they were made and not allowed to be turned into some sort of chic under the label “vintage treasures”.

Here are a few from the very first page of pinterest. These were the more ok-ish ones. They are everywhere I’m telling you. You can’t look at an Apartment Therapy post without finding at least one, (but they tend to come in pairs) and there are over 66,000 on Houzz! It’s so awful that I’m actually starting to like it and might have to go expropriate the ones from my mother’s basement guest bedroom. Yikes!!!

On the other hand, this is the proper way to display turquoise in one’s home; as understated, jewel-like details.

pillows

Another perfectly lovely way to bring more turquoise is as ribbons on exquisite gifts. Everyone loves turquoise like that. πŸ™‚

If you really must have turquoise around you at all times then why not consider some lovely jewellery. I’ve been meaning to make these macrame bracelets for…forever. Aren’t they lovely? Here’s the how-to.

And finally, and because this is random, this has nothing to do with turquoise anything, but this makes me want to take all my paintings out of the frames and off their supports and stack them against the wall like this! Love it to the max!

Sharing with Nancy for some randomness and hoping the links all works. πŸ™‚

Turquoise seems to be the newest fad? I am with you on this Veronica. I like the traditional colors of Christmas. Why change it? Thanks for sharing this! Pretty interesting!

Love this post Veronica, Love the bracelets and yes my paintings are stacked against the wall too looking all ‘ambient’ LOL Large mirrors too, they look fab just sat there rather than hanging – inspired by the French side of my family πŸ™‚

I think of turquoise as belonging to summer but have to admit that the pair of lamps in center, bottom row, are pretty cool, just not Christmasy. My daddy was a blue man. Our picture window had to be ringed with blue lights each year. I noticed in one blogger’s posts that Mary Carol Garrity of Nell Hill stores went to traditional colors for her Open House this year, including a thread of small bouquets of red roses in each room. It was restful and not over the top. Nice in this unsettled world.

I loved reading in your comment to me about your fond memories of your figure skating costumes being knitted by your mother, even remembering your favorite. I’m happy that so many young women are turning back to sewing and knitting and canning and crafting today. Someday their children will remember these things with pride.

Yesterday I saw an old truck painted an awesome shade of turquoise and fell totally in love! By the way, I noticed your map paintings and fell totally in love with those, too! Gorgeous!

I don’t recall ever decorating for Christmas with red and green, small touches of them though. Our first Christmas tree when married was blue and silver and I’ve graduated to silver, purple and turquoise.
The lamps are dated and I wouldn’t want them as part of my decor. Our granddaughters love bracelets like you’ve shown, no precious gems for this generation. πŸ˜‰

that shade of turquoise is so very 1950s … a friend of ours has hung empty interesting frames on his apartment walls .. quite the conversation starter

    Veronica,
Thank you for visiting us at Red Rose Alley. You have my favorite color for home dΓ©cor on here. I LOVE turquoise, and just recently decorated my kitchen in it. The tea set is so lovely, and that picture of the girl is very special. It kind of reminds me of my daughter when she was little.

    Have a nice weekend.

Love turquoise, but that is overkill for sure, and definitely not Christmasy–got to have my red, green, white, silver and gold, thank you very much πŸ™‚ Really love those bracelets, but know myself well enough that they would never get made πŸ˜‰
