Future “tense”…is that nervous? Because I am.
The WordPress weekly photo challenge, future tense, has got me thinking.
Each year I open my packets of seeds and hold them in my hand and feel the life energy stored within each perfect little parcel. Then I look at my garden space and know that I won’t have the room for all 50 or so seeds, and so we play the “who will live and who will die” game again. I hate it.
I really try to swap/ give/bribe people to take the extra seeds and let them grow and most years I’m pretty successful at it.
This year, the second growing season in my garden, I’ve got my act together a little more and have bought some angled iron to stand up the ancient gates with. I figure they will give me twice the growing space for beans and peas than the bush variety. And I love the privacy and the garden room feeling that height in the potager gives. (Have also bought some brown metal spray paint because I can’t live with the cold silver. (Artist…so sue me))
So the soil is prepared, the seeds are out of their packages and ready to be planted, future tense looks a little less stressful. Now, who can I find to send half of a package of scarlet runners to?

Lol Kathryn, I have the same un-known species here in little envelopes…what are we like? 🙂
Becca
I love this, Veronica. You are so caring of your little seeds. 😉
Veronica
I do care Becca, it breaks my heart to compost some of the seeds. 🙁
mithriluna
Great entry for this week’s challenge! I am also looking forward to planting seeds in my garden.
Veronica
Hello Mithriluna, you lucky mom of 9 kids! What an adventure your life must be…I would have loved to have 9. As it is I’m so blessed to have three…what have somehow multiplied into seven!?! 🙂
mithriluna
You are very blessed indeed!
Veronica
It’s true Mithriluna. Now to keep reminding myself of that. 🙂
Angeline M
I love that you hold the seeds in your hands like that
Veronica
Thak you Angeline, they need to be felt and held I think. 🙂

Beautiful! Only with your tender love and care will these seeds “grow up” to encompass this garden.
Veronica
So true Jean. I loved your couples interpretation; really moving. Love and caring is always the answer, isn’t it? Hugs 🙂
JoAnn Bayne
This is a wonderful post – such thoughtfulness for your garden and plants. I love the privacy created by a green, growing garden.
Veronica
Me too JoAnn. Especially when one had bought a rather flat piece of ground. Have to pop over to yours to keep up with your garden. 🙂

Wonderful image of Life renewing and is a truth Poem 🙂
Thanks too for visiting my place!
seeker
Scarlet runners, huh, how about throw it all over the place in your area. Flowers are great for hummingbirds.
Veronica
So true seeker, have to find some supports first. 🙂
Richard Tulloch
The rejected seeds will never know about your decision. Or care, fortunately.
Veronica
There you go Richard! 🙂 I really have to stop anthropomorphising the hell out of everything.
Catherine Llewellyn
do you have guerilla gardening over there? maybe they’d love to have your extra seeds? X
Veronica
Catherine, that’s a brilliant idea. If not the guerillas maybe some of the community gardeners. 🙂 Thank you. Xxx
Amy
Wonderful post! I also compost veggie peels, grass, and leaves to enrich the soil.
Veronica
Me too Amy. 🙂

Veronica
Thank you Nando, I wish a garden for you too. 🙂

“Now, who can I find to send half of a package of scarlet runners to?”
how about saving them for next year? 🙂
Veronica
Plaridel, I don’t seem to have a very good result with last year’s seeds. Do you? Maybe there’s a trick I don’t know about. 🙂
Becca
But, at least, by composting them, they are contributing to the growth of your other plants. 😉 They will not die in vain.
Veronica
I know Becca, so true.

The angled iron is a wonderful idea and you’re right, it does end a “garden room” feel to it.
Veronica
Kathy, I sat in the garden and looked at the old gates and suddenly the angled iron solution came to me and I thought, “could it be that easy?” and it was! 🙂

For me, it is the growing and nurturing of the plant that suddenly dies for no reason. *cry!*
Veronica
I hear you Angela 🙁
