Gong Xi Fa Cai…like we need a reason to have a good time!
Happy Chinese New Year everyone and welcome black snake.
Apparently the year of protection, support, ambition and following thru in slow methodical ways to achieve goals. Hooray for that! Iβm sorry to say but it seems to me that the year of the dragon sucked…except for our little Bunny of course.
So welcoming the black snake took a little trip to Osaka market to pick up some groceries and all things good luck, like good fortune envelopes and chocolate dollars.
I also found these beautiful mushrooms.
Wok fried them with green onions and oyster sauce.
Then we realised the Grammys were just about to start. Goodbye lovely dining room, we’ll be in the library if you want us. π

Hi Veronica,
Shen Ti Jian Kang(good health) to you and Gong Xi Fa Cai (Good fortune) to you.
It’s so interesting and touching to see foreigners celebrating Chinese New Year. I feel that it’s a kind of respect and acceptance of Chinese culture.
Veronica
Shen Ti Jian Kang to you too Felicity. π

It’s me again. I was writing and the web was having problems so i posted the comment without finishing it.
Do you have Chinese friends or relatives near you? Or maybe you lived in China in your past life? lol. Anyway, some foreigners have different views about China/Chinese. Glad to see some are having positive views. There are always two sides of a coin of course.
Veronica, this name always reminds me of Italy. Have you been there before? Or, are you fond of this country?
Well, I am glad that the year of Dragon has gone and the year of Snake has arrived.
Enter a new year and new energy flow will bring good fortune and future.
May your year blessed with everything you wish for!
Love,
Felicity

Lol, I do that all the time Felicity! π It’s a good thing most people know I have a butterfly brain and smile about it. Here in Vancouver we have a very large Chinese demographic and the 2nd largest China town after San Fran so it’s lovely and easy to be immersed in the culture. For me, I was born in the Czech Republic, (Czech mother, British father) and have lived all over Europe and as a part of each community, mostly now in my little village of Northmoor, Oxfordshire, so it’s really easy and natural for me to pick up cultural celebrations. I speak several languages and love Italy, Venice in particular, but that’s one language I still have to learn. Maybe next year… π

You got me interested in looking up year of the snake, I could use a good year! Beautiful photos, as always. You are a great photographer. I love mushrooms and that dish looks divine.
Veronica
Sabra, you and me both. Almost everyone I know had a pretty lousy last year. Year of the snake…here we come. π

Holy cow that stir fry photo was fabulous!! My husband and I take Kung Fu, so I thought this was wonderful–just had our New Year’s Celebration complete with Dragon and Lion Dances–whoo hoo!! π (p.s. are you a food photographer? Your food photos are downright drool-worthy π
Veronica
Sara, you sweet sweetie, thank you! π I’m not a food photographer, I just take photos of everything. Lately though I’ve been taking a lot of food photos. Hey, Kung Fu, that’s great. My son Jonathan is black belt in Judo and C’s boyfriend Bryson is in Aikido. Get us all together and we’d have some fantastic suppertime convos. π
