Look beyond. A wordpress weekly photo challenge
I’m not sure I’ve ever shown you this image. For a few years now I’ve been obsessed with reproducing Vanitas in my photography. Vanitas are a type of symbolic work describing the transient nature of life. The word takes a root from Vanity. In Latin: Vanitas vanitatum omnia vanitas: all is vanity. Look beyond the lovely hot cup of coffee. Think about what it is you see.
Thought about and presented for the WordPress weekly photo challenge: Beyond.

I love this! My son happens to be playing Mozart on a music game right now. It goes perfectly with this picture. I always wonder where you get these lovely things in your photos. Beautiful.

Thank you Linda. I’m drowning in stuff! 🙂 It’s just a mish/mash collection of bits and pieces, (mostly vintage, some good antiques). My excuse for hunting them down and collecting them is as photo props. But I must admit that I love living with them and looking at them and collecting them. (We won’t say anything about the 1920’s Kewpie doll and the mechanical chimp that just happened to find me yesterday) 😉

What a beautiful “full” photo– I love every bit of it, the uniqueness of each item, the placement, the texture, the colors… gorgeous!
Veronica
Thank you Rara. I’ll get my finger out and create more Vanitas. 🙂

Very interesting! Certainly the most interesting tea post of the day! I have not heard of Vanitas before, and I am enjoying your image here.

Thank you for joining in Tea Cup Tuesday! That is a gorgeous cup!
Veronica
Hi Terri, I’m so glad you like it. I’ve got a collection of the pretty little things and am thrilled to find your blog and such a lovely Tuesday game! 🙂 Vanitas were popular in Flanders in the 16C and were painted by great masters but I love to push the limits and boundaries, so this work in photography. I hope to join in with another tea cup next Tuesday. 🙂
