I think it might be the sun!
So good for our damp little hearts.
Better run outside and plant the rest of the flowers in the garden before the rain comes again.
Clover? There’s no moving C right now. She just got an early birthday prezzy from her grandmother. (C’s birthday is April 9th but her old pc was misbehaving)
I once read a Ray Bradbury short story set on Venus where it rained all the time. (I’m sure the he lived in Vancouver when he wrote it) Once every several yrs the sun came out for a brief time. One school girl boasted about seeing the sun and how wonderful it was but the other school children didn’t believe her and locked her in a closet. Then ran outside for recess. That was the day the sun came out and all the children laughed and played in the sunshine until one felt a drop of rain and the clouds moved in and it began to pour. They then thought of the little girl locked in the closet who missed that glorious time, they walked to the closet and silently let her out.
C is being the girl in a self-imposed closet right now. But it’s alright.
And in the time it took me to photograph this and write this post…maybe 30 minutes…it’s clouded over and now it’s raining.

I read that Ray Bradbury story too, when I was elementary,school. It stuck with me because I felt so terrible for the little girl who was robbed of seeing the sun, but didn’t know who wrote it. Thanks for telling me. And your post is such a neat blend of picture and story!

Hi Lara, the story is called All Summer in a Day. I think it stayed with me as well I think it was from high school. Amazing how some stories get inside your head, isn’t it? I remember a French teacher who read Day of the Triffids, (in English), out loud for an hour every Friday afternoon. No one missed that class! 🙂

Hi Kate, I miss England right now, except that Robert reports 6 degrees and manky at home in West Cottage, (OXON). At least here in Vancouver it’s a bit warmer today. There was a lovely show in Blenheim this weekend, (which I obviously missed for being in Van this month), and the image was of John Thaw standing outside Blenheim, beside the special Jag, in the sunshine, all happy and smiley….but I’m not feeling so badly about missing the leaden weekend it’s turned out to be. (You know what we need? A good week in Hawaii or Grand Canaria!) 🙂

day of the triffids is a bit intense for school kids i would have thought! – your bradbury story reminds me of ‘nightfall’ by asimov, about a planet which is always in daylight until one day night falls and they see the stars for the first time ever – worth a read – wont say any more, spoiler alert
