Post Valentine’s loveliness plus a new page
Today’s rain and cold is making us want to stay at home.
Hibernate. Have a bit more winter.
But we were out of fruit and so decided on a morning trip to Whole Foods.
Every time I’m there I think of how much I love to live with whole, natural, organic goods.
Do you like beeswax candles and fresh, handmade soaps? I do.
Some of my friends make their own candles and soap. I’ve made candles before but not soap. I’d like to try to one day.
It’s lovely at home today. It’s warm and fragrant with flowers.
Yesterday I made another page in my personal journal and it was late when I finished constructing it. This afternoon I sliced up a blood orange, lit some candles and had a good look at the page.
I love these little candles. They are peony scented, made by a small Cornish company called St. Eval Candle Company. Robert gave them to me for Christmas. They are just so delicious.
I’ve decided that I really love this page.
The words I found there say: “The problem was not sufficient to keep the drive down.”
To me, this represents my drive to constantly create things, to get over my problems and limitation, you know, not let anything hold me down. The words reminded me of weeds…misunderstood flowers really, plants that belong.
Weeds which are so powerful that they push thru cement and grow and flower in any condition, with any limitations. I love weeds and draw, paint, carve and sculpt them a great deal. I used some vibrant tissue rectangles, which came form a wonderful New Year’s Eve years ago, and collaged the other words away, then painted with my acrylics and inks. I’ve run out of mat medium and so used gloss medium and really love the glossy look. Proves once again that there are no mistakes, just happy accidents. π
Now I’ve made myself a cup of tea and am reading the next page. So far the words “experimental genius” have captured my attention. (By the way, this next page is the last page with writing. Not sure how I’ll construct the photo pages.)
Experimental genius reminds me of R! This Valentine’s we are in different countries and he sent me a little video called “look what I found”. It shows all the flood water running across the field paths and I was completely ready to see some squeaky little thing paddling its head off, and, instead, there was an “I” and a heart and a “U” made from bright pebbles under that cold, running water. And his hand was red from the frozen water!
R is such a keeper! π
Hope your weekend is lovely and tranquil and you’re all basking in the Valentine’s love, which hopefully sticks around in your heart all year.

Such a lovely post as usual. I admire your LD relationship! Also I was trying to sniff the pink soap : ) What scent is it?
Veronica
Aw, it takes time and a lot of really hard work. π This soap is a rosy rose soap. Smells heavenly.
Gerry Wilson
Just lovely, all of it!
Veronica
Aw, thank you so much Gerry. Must come catch up with you. π
Gill
thanks for popping by my blog and commenting, that was so nice of you. I love anything citrus in soaps.
Veronica
Hi Gill. I love citrus soaps as well; especially mandarin. The Body Shop mandarin soap is a delicious smelling one, isn’t it?

Lovely photos to go with your post today. Really like your journal and I love all the color on this particular page. I love me some whole foods but I always leave in denial about how much my bill actually was- Yikes!!

I am returning your visit and am so glad to meet another lover of weeds (flowers). I have many “volunteers” growing in my gardens and I allow them to flower and am never sorry. I agree that they are the hardiest of the flowers and interestingly (as nature would have it) they attract bees and birds as much, if not more, than the planned plantings. I enjoyed your journal thoughts and the painting is beautiful. I can see you are oozing with talent and look forward to being inspired by you. Thank you for stopping by …

Hi Andrea, I’m so glad you popped over. I feel the same way about weeds. Actually, I do so much photography is the wild flower meadow at our cottage in England. Much more than in any of the gardens. So much more interest and wildlife and butterflies and bees. Somehow the meadows are always more alive. π
Christie
How romantic Robert is! He is surely a keeper!! Love your tribute to weeds. I have many in my gardens – as long as they are bloomers they can stay! π
Veronica
I feel the same way Christie, about Robert and the weeds. π

I also love homemade soap. On one of our trips to the mountains, I found a soap called , “Bear’s Breath”, sounds gross, right? Actually it was so refreshing, and minty! Your journal sentences continue to be very interesting. I like the multilayered tissue paper, it is so colourful. If you ever run out of gel medium, and you have regular glue, you can mix a few drops of water with the glue and voila, it is inexpensive, dries clear and glossy. It dries slower than gel medium, but works just as effectively.
You have a great eye for capturing every day objects in such beautiful ways!
Veronica
Thank you so much Renee. I’m a sucker for great names and will really consider buying something because of the label or the name…how bad is that? π Thanks for the glue tip. I don’t have any of that here either…well, I think there’s a carpenter’s glue around here…lol. Have to go do a Wal-Mart trip. I hate Wal-Mart. π

Beautiful page…something like this amazes me / you are blessed with so much beautiful creativity. And the pebbles…he’s a romantic sweetheart for certain π
Veronica
Thank you Debra. I do feel very lucky to have developed a talent for creativity and to have found Robert to share my life with. π

Love that page! And R is definitely a keeper–creativity and romantic the best combo π
Veronica
I know, I’m such a lucky girl! Thank you so much. I love that page too. π

i take it R is your man? too right. keep! :)))
Veronica
Lol, I think I will keep him. π I love peony scents too and chrysanthemums in the autumn. Much nicer than roses and the usual flowers, don’t you think?
