Shopping for prezzies for the Clover

Junk shops + vintage shops + thrift shops = Happy! Because the one thing I absolutely love doing is finding one-of-a-kind, unusual things for my children (and me). And thank goodness for my iPhone. Happy little iPhone; clandestine little photo taker. 😀 Let me show you a favourite shop in our market town: The Old Pill Factory.

I absolutely fell in love with this little mirrored photo frame,(and the enamelled jug), but the frame was a bit pricey at about £28 (if I remember). Might have to go back for it thought because the more I look at it the more I love it to pieces.

Old books are absolutely my weakness and look at these beautiful covers!

I loved the gentle girliness of this bench and pillow, and I love that the cover on the bench isn’t perfect matchy matchy. That’s how my quilts usually turn out…lol…so I feel most gratified.

And look what I found! Now this is the perfect man-cave that I can live with. Aren’t those chairs and that sofa just to die for? I can see them being in some ol’ boy’s club in Oxford, smelling of cigars and scotch. That wine rack would be full of lovely wine bottles and on the wall facing the sofa would be a roaring fire with those plush fire guards, you know, the ones you can perch on. Heaven. Actually, I think I might expropriate this man-cave for myself and call it a girly-grotto.

I took at least an hour exploring the nooks and crannies of this lovely store. It’s impossible to see it all in one go. I think I might have to go back next week. 🙂

Hope you’re having a relaxing weekend across the ol’ globe.

Ooooo, the large basket (for firewood), that lovely quilt and the flag would have to come home with me!

I have never been good at this — I envy those who can walk into a vintage shop, a garage sale, etc and find TREASURES. I will try to learn from you.

I had forgotten how much I love wandering through these kinds of shops! It’s been awhile since I’ve taken the time. You are inspiring me to go back! Like you, I love the one of a kind but I also like thinking about the stories behind the items – who owned them, how they came to own them – so many possibilities! Would make a lovely story book to just write about found objects. Thanks for sharing your adventure! I think you should get the frame… of course!

I LOVE the desk, the bird house jewelry box on top of the bookshelves (in the last picture), the lamp with built in table-space, not to mention the white dresser and wooden trunk in the “girly grotto”!

I can almost smell the dust in those old places!
And how did I miss your paintings?
They are lovely. Soft, misty, gentle – very open. A little like you Veronica! Although I’m not sure about “misty” 🙂
    Happy painting!

I can’t believe that there are no antique stores in NYC at all. I know there are secondhand clothing stores. So why wouldn’t there be antique stores? However, that would definitely be an amazing business opportunity. If Veronica doesn’t come open a store, if you truly love stores like that, you could open one yourself! Either use it as your main source of income (you can be your own boss, set your own hours, justify out of town shopping trips as a business expense, etc etc) or use it to supplement your current income! If I could handle the big city, I would consider it. As is, I like my small town too much. And we’re saturated with antique stores. 🙁

There’s nothing like a good junk/antique shop. I have to be careful, though, because so many things speak to me and I would love to give them a good home. However, I live in a small house so I mostly look for small things these days. But, oh, isn’t the looking fun???

One hour – really, that’s all I’m asking for – just one hour in a shop like that……………..
