Useless, pretty little things and tea cup Tuesday
Yesterday it rained all day. As a matter of fact it’s been raining all week. Well actually, typical West Coast spring.
I spent some time with mom and as the morning wore on, we both became more and more reluctant to go for that walk we thought we’d go for.
So we went shopping instead.
I think the rain got to everyone because my hosting company had a nuclear meltdown yesterday, with the end result that I couldn’t upload any photos.
So my tea cup Tuesday is turning into a tea cup Wednesday post.
Stuff is real folks, stuff is real.
Mom was after some sandals in case the sun ever comes out again, (wishful thinking), but we had a good mooch around Oakridge mall in her neck of Vancouver.
Boy there’s a lot of orange out there for the spring.
And spikes…what’s with all the spikes…yikes.
Later, at home, I started thinking of all the shoes we saw, tried on and rejected. I thought that some shoes were very pretty but a little useless for me, whether it was the $356 price tag or the spikes, they felt a little like my Victorian shoe pin cushion and my British grandmother’s silver cigarette case. Lovely to look at, but I’d never use them.
Same with this, my Czech grandmother’s little cup.
I mean, who in the world wants to drink her tea one thimbleful at a time?
I suppose it’s a little like these vintage stockings. I mean, if you can get decent tummy control hose, who wants to fiddle with garter belts and baggy ankles? Sheesh!
What do you think? Here are my Czech grandmother’s crystal, ruby and gold tea cups. Aren’t they just too beautiful? Is it worth drinking thimblefuls at a time just to use them?
No, I think not.
Time to put away all useless, pretty things.
And so pardon me while I get my tea in my ubiquitous Sbux mug, because stuff is real folks, and sometimes a girl just needs a decent cup of tea…
…and some beautiful shoes.
Linking with Terri and checking out the progress with her chalk paints…looking great Terri, with Martha and feeling happy about your Memorial Day family get-together, with Sandi and loving all that peachy creamy beauty, and with Bernideen, and thinking, oh, girl, wish I could have tea in the garden too. 🙂
Karen
Hi Veronica,
I love it all !! The expensive shoes, the gorgeous tiny teacups and how I wish I could have tea in the garden too!
Take care,
Karen
Veronica
I know Karen, when’s the sun ever going to come out! 🙂
Diane
I used to have soooo many pair of shoes in my closet, then I got old. Or my feet did. As for those spikes? Yikes is right. They look like weaponry of some sort and I’m not sure why any woman would actually choose to wear that look. Each to her own, or so they say. Love the orange color though! It screams hot weather!!
Veronica
I hear you Diane, but I still can’t resist a sexy pair of 4″ heeled court shoes. It’s a weakness. Do you think it’s worth getting the hot orange and just pretending the weather is fine? Lol, seems like the only choice I have right now. Wait! I could move to the south of France! 🙂
Sandi
Good afternoon Veronica,
I enjoyed shopping in Vancouver with my DIL when we were out there at Christmastime. But as much as I love those high heels, I can’t wear them any longer. Although I did a number of years ago. Well, maybe not quite as high as those you’ve shown. I have to wear lower heels now with my back the shape it’s in.
My son is flying home for a visit on Friday and I can’t wait to see him! Yay! Wish his family was coming too. But the flight is too long for my little granddaughter. Sniff, sniff!
As for those teacups; oh, my goodness, they’re cute! I love the crystal and gold ones especially. What beautiful little treasures they are! It’s lovely that you have them. Not much good for tea however.
Thank you for coming for tea and enjoy the rest of your week. Hope the sun comes out soon!
Blessings,
Sandi
Veronica
Hi Sandi. How lovely that you’ll have your son for a while. I miss Jonathan and he’s right here, (only so very busy). I hope your son doesn’t bring the Vancouver rain with him! Thank you for hosting again this week. I love my visits with my tea gals. 🙂
Martha
Hi Veronica: I just love those little pretty vintage things! The one with the couple is my favorite. Always a pleasure to read your post. I follow by email so, sometime it feels like you are just next door. Hugs, Martha
Veronica
Hi Martha, thank you very much. 🙂 It’s true, isn’t it? When those little emails arrive with a new post I just love it. I must follow more of my favorite gals. Hugs to you and see you soon.

Veronica
Me too Bernideen. Thank you so much for hosting. 🙂
Lavender Cottage
I like your theory Veronica: if you don’t feel like doing the housework, go shopping. LOL The orange is everywhere here too – not my colour!
As for the tiny teacups of your grandmother’s, they’re likely one of the reasons someone invented the mug – along with the bigger handle. Nice stuff to bring out and travel down memory lane with sometimes.

Veronica
Yeah, I’m not sold on the orange either Judith. Lovely to come visit you again this week. 🙂
Two Cottages and Tea
Beautiful teacups and beautiful shoes! Shopping on a rainy day sounds good to me!
Hope you get some sunny weather soon!
Nancy
Veronica
Lol, me too Nancy, until then I think I’ll shop. 🙂
Linda G Hatton
Okay, I was thinking, “Yes, use grandmother’s tea cup!!” Then I was taken in by your Starbucks mug. I’m with you. It seems to be the better choice. I loved the shoe pictures! I’ve been wondering about the spiked shoes, too. I bet teenagers will love them.
Veronica
I know Linda, Sbux all the way! Those spikes are ridiculous! But then I’d hate to look back at what I wore as a teen. 🙂
