Oh my gosh I’d so redecorate!
I completely have to stay out of the Burford Garden Centre.
Here is just a tiny corner of this fantastic place, only about 1/50 of the space that you can see here, I could live here.
Here are the most scrumptious kilim rugs and crewel work pillows and furniture made of reclaimed Indonesian boats (5000 GBP for the table and four chairs).
It all looks like the most exotic fantasy. Just look at these colours! The reds are the best, deepest, purest shades, the blues are sky and the blacks are true black, deep and rich.
Mixed into this wonderful tapestry are the most beautiful hand thrown and primitively glazed bowls. (45 GBP)
This is the pillow I fell in love with. (85 GBP)
And I haven’t even shown you the giant (4′ tall), sunny yellow Provencal olive oil pots at 500 GBP each. I’d need at least three of those.
Maybe if I just stay here very quietly no one will notice. 🙂 Hmm, how can I do this on a budget?

Oh I love that furniture made from the Indonesian boats–it’s so colorful and cheery–they have some here in S. Florida and I keep touching it hoping it will come home with me…I’m with you on that pillow too–BEAUTIFUL!!

I am sure you must be a little jet-lagged (spelling?) after your long trip. I would love to be there with you looking at all of the beautiful shops and exciting tourist attractions. I am scared to fly so unfortunately I can’t join you. You sure do look rested though. Isn’t it wonderful how you can connect with everyone even when you are so far away? Can you Skype with Chloe? My son was in Indonesia with his girlfriend and their family for one month and we kept in touch that way.
Oh yes, were your renovations due to a flood? I had one this week and have the whole restoration crew from my insurance company re-doing my laundry room floor (the washing machine overflowed), taking out my new kitchen cabinets (I had my kitchen done a year and a half ago). The worst is my basement! The water flowed down to the lighting, ceiling fan and the ceiling and flooring were destroyed. They have taken out my sink, dishwasher and everything so I must stay at the cottage but they are estimating completion date in 12 weeks! Help! I was home at the time and tried to mop up as much as I could but the damage was done. I now understand how frustrated you must have been. Should I show my damage on my BlogSpot?

Hi Karen. I semi-hate to fly too, but I also live here so have to get here some way. Yes, our restoration began with a flood caused by a lousy plumber who didn’t clear the plug and then broke the toilet to boot so the toilet kept flushing and made a huge mess of my laundry room below, the walls, the ceilings, part of the guest bedroom and buckled my 100yr old fir floors. Ugh. The end of the tunnel is in view though. I think you should post the reno. I’d love to see it. 🙂

If you figure out how to do it on a limited budget, please do tell! lol! I walked into Homegoods the other day and found pillows and rugs I just adored…but, alas….I did not find the extra money there too! : )

I do understand the lure of an indulgent spirit, my friend. Having a few decades on her in age, I can now let go of much of the material acquisition and be content with admiring from afar. I guess it comes from having packed too many truck loads of possessions around too many states for too long. I just got tired of packing/unpacking and crying when something got destroyed through carelessness or accident.
But I do understand that desire that shoots through the heart when one sees just the perfect piece that would be stunning and beyond imagining sitting in my living room. 🙂 Enjoy the dream. Me, I design custom houses that I will never build. Call it a necessary fantasy.

That’s brilliant Claudsy. My son Jonathan has that detachment form personal things too. For me it’s still IT’S MINE!!! But I love designing custom houses never to be built too. 🙂
