Weekend review on a mosaic Monday
There’s a local joke that goes:
“What comes after two days of rain in Vancouver?”
“Monday!”
Yeah, it’s not that funny if it’s your weekend. Saturday I promised mom some help with a supper she was hosting at her house. Eight guests, I was the youngest; the oldest recently turned 99, several doctors, one lawyer, one financier.
For me, there is no better way to combat a rainy Saturday and busy supper preparations than a visit to my favorite nursery Southlands Nursery. There, in the several greenhouses, are such fantasies as all my gardening dreams are made of.
Later, back at mom’s I was inspired to make several arrangements from mom’s garden flowers and my father’s camellias which are in glorious bloom right now.
Later we started the preparations and had a lovely time together,
And, when the guests came, we had a wonderful evening.
I wasn’t wearing any jewellery, (except my always ring), so mom and I went to the safe and she gave me her beautiful amber necklace. My father gave it to her. Sunday morning as the sun came into my bedroom, I lifted it up in the sunlight and marveled at the fire within.
I’m linking up my weekend review with Mary from Little Red House for Mosaic Monday.

Veronica
Lol, Esther, you’re such a sweetie. Much love and peace and no major aches and pains to you. 🙂

So many beautiful things in this post. I think I’ll have to do a little garden dreaming at my favorite nursery.
Veronica
Yes Michelle, it’s wonderful. If we were closer we’d be running the length of the country visiting nurseries! 🙂
Sheila
Veronica, this is just gorgeous! Love that arrangement, and the blue of those hydrangeas just makes me weak-kneed. My cousin has a place in Martha’s Vineyard, and I was just in awe of the blues of the hydrangeas there. It’s a different shade than I was used to seeing. They are one of my favorite flowers.
I love how you mixed flowers and colors. Nothing more beautiful than a natural looking mixed bouqet of stunning flowers. Great job! I know your guests must have enjoyed it.
XO,
Sheila
Veronica
Sheila, I love hydrangeas too and I’m thrilled to see early spring cultivars! Thank you so much for your lovely words. If I could, I would spend all day, every day, working with flowers. 🙂

Your table looks regal and beautiful in the sunshine. Also what a lovely wonderful heirloom from your mother!
Veronica
Kathryn, that’s mom’s table. It’s an old oak pub table she imported from England. It’s so beautiful and has a giant ancient split in the middle down the length. That split’s been there for ever. I’m lucky to be an only child of a very generous mother. 🙂

Veronica
Yes Kathryn, I am. 🙂

I really enjoyed this post – the lovely photos, plus the heartwarming family. <3 You are a very lucky woman. <3
Veronica
Hi Diana, thank you for coming over here. I do feel very lucky. Do you write in the writer’s digest site? I’ll have to go find you. 🙂
Jo
Lovely table – and flowers – and necklace. Looks like a wonderful evening.
I knew the answer to your riddle before I read it. Only my answer is NW Washington. The Tulip Festival just ended – and 4 out of the 5 weekends it rained – makes for soggy walking about to view the tulips. It looks like this coming weekend will be sunny – let’s hope the weather forecaster doesn’t realize it is a weekend and take away the sunshine.
Veronica
I know JoAnn, so very true of the tulip festival. I bet you get the weather just slightly before I do. Nice week we’re having now though. 🙂

What a gorgeous bouquet you put together for what sounds like a lovely dinner … at least all that rain produces such gorgeous blooms!
Veronica
Hi Tricia, thank you for visiting and for leaving your addy because now I can come visit you. 🙂

Your quote is great, Veronica! And I love your pictures of the nursery, the flower arrangement and table setting for your mother’s dinner and that amber necklace. I’d bet it was a fabulous evening. 🙂
Veronica
Hi Cathy, thank you so much. It was a lovely evening. 🙂

I had to laugh at your complaint of rain. I live in interior Alaska where spring is very, very late in coming, and it has been snowing since last night. Our local high school soccer, track, softball and baseball teams have scarcely been able to get in a competition. I would love some good old rain!
I am envious of your hydrangeas. We can’t really do hydrangeas in the Alaskan interior. Even in pots they just don’t thrive. My grandparents had hydrangea bushes in front of their house in the Seattle area, and I’ve always loved them.
I am enjoying sharing the everyday moments of your life, which seems much more peaceful than mine!

Lorrie
How nice to meet another West Coast blogger! What gorgeous flower arrangements you created for your mom’s dinner party. So colorful. And the bluebells – I love that you collect them from building sites! Save the bluebells! Don’t we live in a wonderful part of the world?
Veronica
We do Lorrie, we do. 🙂

So many pretty things to admire 🙂
Veronica
Thank you Lucid Gypsy. 🙂
