A handful of random thoughts about how BAD I really am
I woke up with a migraine this morning so everything makes about as much sense right now as this photo:
I think it’s C’s legs in the shadow of the display of some green bottles (?) You know, when I wake up with that migraine mirage of arcs of shimmery lights, I’m inevitably dreaming of having an argument (usually with my ex) and feeling really angry. What’s that all about?
Anyroadup, was going thru my photos and kept coming up with images of how bad I get, so here’s a little confession time.
When I see something and that idea of “how hard can it be to make that” comes into my head, I take a photo of it and later make my own version.
Do you remember that piece of broken jade plant I found in San Francisco? I smuggled it into Canada and planted it in a pot. How bad is that? It gets worse. I also nipped a little sedum off of a plant in a park and that’s planted too. The only saving grace here is that I have Master Gardener status and know better than to allow anything dangerous (pest or disease) to escape into the environs.
I sneak photos of random strangers. Sometimes I just love the light or composition and want to hang on to the moment, and sometimes I love to send it to C and caption it with “your new look…lol”.
I take photos while I drive…gulp! I use my iPhone or a little Canon. The saving grace here is that I’ve taken umpteen defensive driving courses and am a brilliant driver. (I know, no excuse)
I still haven’t started that etsy shop I said I would in my New Year’s resolution. The things stopping me are: ME!
Sharing the randomness with Nancy and looking forward to catching up with everyone. I love our random Fridays.
harsha
Can i say, it has been a truly, truly refreshing post!
Even I like to capture people in their own space….loved the ones you clicked!
Veronica
Thank you Harsha. 🙂
Dewena Callis
You sound like most everybody I know. Well, the most interesting ones anyway!
Veronica
Aw, thank you so much Dewena. 🙂 I always say that right now I’m interested but later on in my life I hope to be interesting. 🙂
Daryl
i hope you feel better soon … xo
Veronica
Starting to. 🙂 Thank god for Advil. 🙂
Coloring Outside the Lines
Sound perfectly normal to me…except for the migraine…I’ve never had one so I can’t relate. I’ve heard it’s just about the most awful pain and nausea ever..so I feel for you. Rest, and I hope you feel better soon. Thanks for stopping by my blog today.
Veronica
I just get a terrible headache but not the nausea, so I’m lucky…er…as far as lucky to have a headache goes…lol. Thanks for coming back to visit with me. 🙂
EG CameraGirl
Ha! I love that you take photos of objects you like and then make them yourself. How interesting you have started two plants by nipping small pieces and rooting them. The price is right.
Hope you are feeling better.
Veronica
I know, right! I couldn’t believe the price of that cushion. If memory serves, it was something in the neighbourhood of $60! Yikes, that’s about 15 Sbux chai tea lattes. A girl has to have her priorities! 🙂
Hootin' Anni
I’ve done that before….only plants from Mex into USA. Oh, and a rock or two from somewhere in the desert or prairie…I’ve been known to take a few here and there.
I love your random photos…those boots?!!! They’re definitely made for walkin’.
Hope the migraine goes away soon.
Veronica
Lol, I’m so glad I’m getting all this support for the bad things I do Anni. 🙂 I just knew we’d be friends. 🙂

People watching is so much fun. I videoed a couple once and put it on my blog. They were obviously two people in love… but one of my readers sort of took issue with it. I say if someone is out in public sharing a hug that it’s a good thing and deserves to be shared with the world… besides… they were in PUBLIC, it’s not as if I peeked in their windows. LOL Sorry about that migraine. Must be horrible to have to deal with. 🙁
Veronica
Don’t worry Diane. I run into a lot of this as a photographer. The fact is that if people put themselves out into the public sphere they are thought of as fair game by photographers…that is, there are no laws protecting privacy and no expectation of privacy for adults in public places. It’s different for photographers when they photograph under aged people and especially children, then it’s thought of as appropriate to get the parent’s permission if you’re going to sell the image but the same no expectation of privacy in the public sphere exists and I know plenty of editorial photographers who don’t bother with the permission at all. But then, I guess you come across people who will take offence at, you know, wearing white after labour day. 🙂 Thanks for the sympathy my friend. A couple of Tylenols and I feel somewhat in less pain. It’s the drop in barometric pressure that’s done it, I think.

I have a lot of photos of things I would like to make…or to inspire me to make something…and i keep thinking I will make and sell things through an ETsy shop, but I never do.
Veronica
I know! What are we like? Maybe I should push you and you me and together we should be able to open our shops. I’m just going thru a Jeanne Oliver e-course about a creative home-made business and would be happy to share info. 🙂
debra@ HOMESPUN
I am cracking up about your “how hard can it be to make that” and then you make your own version. I do too! And mine is usually full of mistakes versus the wonderful pattern or piece or whatever that I was trying to make. I think I even did a post about it a few months back ….how hard can it be to make a doll, right ? LOL brings back memories…
Your photos are fantastic in this post! 🙂
Veronica
Thank you Debra. Now I want to go stalk your site and find the post..lol. What are we like? 🙂
april
I love your pics!!!! You are my link up neighbour..wanted to say hello:)
Veronica
Hi April, Hello link-up neighbour. Thank you so much. Now I get to come catch up with you this week. 🙂
Anne Payne
I sneak photos of people too. Just not their faces, in case they happen by on the internet 🙂 Your art is beautiful!
Veronica
Thank you so much Anne. I’m a bit shy to catch them face on too. 🙂
Tina Fariss Barbour
I hope you are feeling better. Waking up with a migraine is no fun, I know! I love that jade plant–it’s one of my favorites. When I took the one and only art class I’ve ever taken, I sketched my jade plant as practice. It’s one of the few things I ever drew that ended up looking “real.” 🙂
I love the musical notes and birds–lovely!!

Oh I am sorry about your migraine I used to get them all the time when I got old:) they seemed to have disappeared I do not miss them. You sound like a good Canadian girl following all the rules:) I like that being a Canadian girl myself:)Love your photos. Take care B
Christie
Hope the migraine is gone by now. Must be a miserable thing to have. I love taking pictures of people out in public like you do but have been yelled at several times that I didn’t have their permission. I was afraid they were going to come after me and my camera.:( As a result I have become much more circumspect about taking those kinds of pictures. Perhaps I need a better zoom, then they wouldn’t see me taking the picture 🙂
Veronica
Oh no Christie. That’s not good. I haven’t had anyone complain at me, and, maybe because Canadians are such a bunch of calm people or something, but the rules are clear that people who put themselves in the public sphere have very little rights to privacy. But a better zoom is definitely a good idea. OMG, I had such lens envy at last night’s concert! 🙂
Sharon
Your post made me smile. Love your BAD girl theme. I might have taken a few photos on my phone while driving just last week 🙂 I’m not creative enough to make a pillow, though. Good for you!
Veronica
Hi Sharon, I’m so glad. I love to make people smile, and, I’m so glad I’m not alone in being bad here. 🙂
Lisa @ Two Bears Farm
I’m so sorry about the migraine. I get them too, and they are truly awful.
Veronica
Do you Lisa? They are a drag, aren’t they? Next time you have one tell me and I’ll send you loads of sympathy and calmness. 🙂
michellepond
Awesome photographs, even the ones while driving. Ahem! (I only do that at stop lights.) I have a sedum in the garden I planted two years ago in memory of my sister.
Veronica
Michelle, I’m so sorry for your loss. But, Yay, I’m so glad I’m not alone in being bad…lol. I have some sedums in the garden too, (hens and chicks) and, now that I think about it, it’s absolutely because of my grandfather who loved them.
Sabra Bowers
I vote for the Etsy shop. Feel better soon.
Veronica
Me too. 🙂 I do feel better today. 🙂
dianadomino
You’re not a bad person. Occasional larceny (of plants) is acceptable. You’re helping them spread their genome widely, there has to be a rule that excuses the larceny for the benefit.
I hope you feel better soon.
Veronica
I like that Diana, allowable plant larceny. Feeling much better today. 🙂
julochkaka
i take photos while i’m driving too. sometimes even with the big camera.
Veronica
Honestly Julie, I’ve been known to do that once or twice myself. 🙂
Nancy @ A Rural Journal
I brought home a lady slipper orchid from Minnesota one year and honestly didn’t know it was illegal to do so. It eventually died.
Veronica
Oh no Nancy, lol…only I probably shouldn’t be laughing. 🙂
KG Style Designs (@kgstyleinc)
Loved the randomness and you sound like me with the migraines.
Sometimes, I look at my phone’s camera roll and think…WHAT?!!! What was I thinking when I took that picture?
As for the ETSY shop, just for it!!Nothing is better than the present to start your dreams…
Keep it Touched,
KG

Veronica
Hi Khloe, you too? They can be a drag, can’t they? As for that shop, I recently bought a brilliant ecourse by Jeanne Oliver, one of my favourite creative gals on line, and am studying it. She gives great guidance about the how of it all. 🙂
dawnsrays
Oh you are bad, BAD! lol
Sorry to hear about the migraine — that sucks.
I totally love your upside down birdie. So cute and the rendition of those fall leaves is spot on!
I see things when I am out shopping and totally think, “I can’ make that” but I usually fail to snap a picture and then of course the idea drifts out of my overcrowded mind and I don’t make it after all, hahaha
Here is hoping for a pain free week ahead for you!
~Dawn
Veronica
Hi Dawn, don’t we love iPhones? Lol, what did we ever do before them? I used to hold my almost invisible little Sony behind my back and just fire off shot after shot hoping to catch something special…backwards. 🙂
KathyB.
Migraines are no fun, I hope you’re feeling much better now.
You captured some interesting pictures and images. I have also taken photos of things I see in shops, knowing if I take a picture I will not only remember what I saw, but I can also make my own. .. I think that is why many little shops have signs saying “no photos to be taken in this shop”, or something to that effect. I usually decide NOT to buy anything in a shop with such signs , even though I frequently ask permission to take photos. I was at a large outdoor bazaar once and wanted to take a picture of the artistic set-up of a booth. It was beautiful and simple, the woman told me I could not take any pictures there. I complied, left, then bought something similar to her product at another booth….maybe because she was so unfriendly in the way she told me “no”. I think your hidden way of taking pictures might be a talent I should hone !
Your artwork is lovely, I know I’ve told you that before. you really do need to open that Etsy shop !
Veronica
Thank you so much Kathy. 🙂 That’s too bad about shops like that, isn’t it? I feel the same way, and, although I can’t think of a specific time, I’m sure I do exactly the same thing. In this economy especially, you’d think that store keepers would be the friendliest, loveliest people. Go figure!?!
Sara v
So sorry about your migraine! That is rough stuff–loved your randomness and go ahead and start that Etsy (I’m giving you permission 😉 Love your bird and leaf paintings–Gorgeous!!
Veronica
Thanks Sara…all better now. 🙂 Thanks for the encouragement. Now I have one started and today I was researching how to list items, so I’m on my way. 🙂
